Multidisciplinary Design is a holistic way to view your creative skills. It’s about collaborating and learning from different fields of design rather than focusing on just one specialty.

Designers are often told to pick a field, and stick with it for their whole career. Never exploring the full scope of their design ability.

This wasn’t always the case. Many of the most celebrated designers of all time were multidisciplinary… From the designers of the Bauhaus, to people like Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Massimo Vignelli, Eileen Gray, Marc Newson and many more.

We often look at these designers and believe that their talent is unattainable. Instead we should focus on what gave them that talent in the first place, a holistic understanding of what makes good design.

Nollie Design was founded by our lead Instructor, Connor O’Neill.

Connor’s career has spanned across Animation, Graphic Design, Makerspaces, Industrial Design and even Fashion Production. Being Multidisciplinary himself, he’s seen the impact of collecting multiple practical creative skills and the benefits they bring to his projects.

In a digital age where the boundaries between disciplines are increasingly blurred and new technology threatens our way of doing things, versatility is key. Designers who can navigate and integrate different design fields are better equipped to tackle complex problems and innovate in ways that specialists might not.
